Hello! My name is Joanne Comerford and I teach 7th grade reading, language arts, and geography. Students who attend my reading class can expect to do just what the subject area suggests—READ! Students will be reading a number of novels, short stories and plays selected by Mrs. Mazzeo and myself that should peak the interests of even the most stubborn of readers! Students will work towards better understanding through reader responses, class discussions, literature circles, and reading workshop.
In language arts, students will be participating in writing workshops where students will learn the editing and revising process as well as a variety of writing techniques and styles. In addition to Writing Workshop, students will work throughout the year on improving spelling/vocabulary skills and grammar.
In addition to language arts and reading, I teach reading strategies in the content area with a primary focus on geography of North America. I will have the opportunity to work with your son or daughter for one quarter of the year in this area. I look forward to meeting all Team 7A students this year.
In order for your child to get the most out of this year, it is important for each student to take responsibility in keeping current with his/her assignments.
