Summer Opportunities
American University's Washington Summer Scholars Program
This summer a limited number of high school students from across the U.S. will be selected to attend an exciting three-week college accredited program held on AU's Washington DC campus. Washington Summer Scholars is a unique opportunity for exceptional high school students to build their academic resume while developing study skills that will help them prepare for and succeed in college. Students also learn leadership skills and engage in challenging and thought-provoking discussions with other student leaders as well as with prominent professionals and leaders in the field. University of Connecticut- School of Engineering
The School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut conducts two summer programs: Engineering 2000, a one-week residential program for 10th and 11th grade students and the daVinci Program for high school and middle school science, math and technology (SMAT) teachers. Both of these programs have contributed to our undergraduate growth. The University offers four-year scholarships, half tuition scholarships and the School of Engineering offers four-year scholarships. In addition, our alumni, friends and corporate sponsors have established funds that award approximately $550,000 annually to our continuing
students and over $200,000 in scholarships to entering students.
Central Area Health Education Center- Summer Medical Camp Program
"Careers for the Future 2008"
Central AHEC, Inc. invites you to participate in our Summer Medical Camp program, "Careers for the Future 2008". This health careers exploration program is designed to give high school students the opportunity to experience health careers in a variety of medical settings. Activities include job shadowing with health care providers, academic and cultural enrichment, personal and professional development and independent research projects. The summer programs are fun, innovative, and inspiring. These include:
- Migrant and Seasonal Farm Worker Health Care Project
- St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center
- CVS Pharmacies
- Hospital of Central CT
The summer programs are both popular and competitive. Students should have a strong desire to learn more about a career in the field of medicine and will be required to complete and essay and submit two letters of recommendation with their application. All programs require a small participation fee, ranging from $25-$75, depending on the location and duration of the camp. Participation fees cover the costs of food, transportation, materials and an end-of-the-summer reception. Financial assistance will be available on an individual basis.
Applications are now being accepted for summer 2008. These are available in the Guidance Office. Applications must be received by May 15, 2008 to be considered for the program. Please return the completed application, along with two letters of recommendation, parent permission form and essay to:

2008 The Junior Statesmen Foundation Summer Programs
"You won't just learn about politics- YOU'LL LIVE IT! This series of programs is open to eight graders, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who have a passionate interest in politics and current events. These programs include:
