*204 -Computer Applications for Freshmen – 1/2 credit – 1/2 year Grades 9 This course is required of all freshmen and is a prerequisite for all other computer courses. Students will learn the mastery of keyboarding techniques; improve proofreading skills; learn file management; learn formatting of MLA reports as well as personal and business letters; briefly use Excel and PowerPoint for school reports. Much time will be devoted to the preparation and management of the student portfolio which is a graduation requirement.
*206 –Advanced Word Processing – 1/2 credit – 1/2 year Grades 10-12 Prerequisite: Computer Applications for freshmen This course is a continuation of Computer Applications for freshmen where students will develop greater skill in formatting documents using Microsoft Word software. Advanced Word Processing will emphasize business-quality output where physical appearance and accuracy are most important. Students will complete documents, make necessary formatting decisions, and proofread finished copies. Upon enrollment in the Tech-Prep Program, successful completion of the course with a grade of 80 or better, and earning a passing grade on the MCC BOT 107 exam, the student will earn three college credits..
*217 – Microsoft Office – 1 credit – 1 year Grades 11-12 Prerequisite: Computer Applications for freshmen This course is a hands-on experience with the Microsoft Office 2003 software, specifically: Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Learning through step-by-step concepts, sequential practice material, and the keystrokes and mouse clicks necessary to accomplish each application; students will develop marketable, entry-level skills in formatting documents and solving complex problems. This course utilizes the latest training materials: SAM (Skills Assessment Manager) and TOM (Training Online Manager). Upon completion of this course, students may qualify for MOS Certification giving them an advantage in the job market. Upon enrollment in the Tech-Prep Program, successful completion of the course with a grade of 80 or better, and earning a passing grade on the MCC BOT 124 exam, the student will earn three college credits.
201 – Accounting I – 1 credit – 1 year Grades 10- 12
Accounting I enables students to develop a basic understanding of financial reports for personal and business use. Accounting simulations will be used to further the students’ understanding of how businesses use journals, ledgers, and financial statements. Students will complete problems using a manual system as well as computerized systems. This course can be used as one math credit requirement.
202 – Accounting II – 1 credit – 1 year Grades 11-12
Prerequisite: Accounting I
Accounting II covers the accounting theories that are applicable to sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. Students are introduced to the accounting information system enabling them to understand and to interpret information contained in published financial statements. Students will become aware of areas of choice in financial accounting methods and estimates. Upon enrollment in the Tech-Prep Program and successful completion (grade 80 or better) of the course and a passing grade on the MCC Accounting 101 exam, the student will earn three college credits.
219 – Introduction to Business – 1/2 credit – 1/2 year Grades 9-12
This course gives the student an opportunity to gain a fundamental knowledge of modern business practices. Everyone will engage in business procedures relative to finance, marketing, and management. This course is the base for future business courses and also an opportunity to look into the different areas of business.
205 – Business and Personal Law – 1/2 credit – 1/2 year Grades 10-12
Personal law develops students’ understanding of the personal rights and obligations of a consumer, a minor, and a citizen. Sales, credit, criminal law, torts, court structures, employment, and other areas important to students are covered. Problems studied reflect current situations in society where law has a major impact on the lives of everyone.
220 – Business Management – 1/2 credit – 1/2 year Grades 10-12
Prerequisite – Introduction to Business
This course is designed for students who will enter business as beginning employees, own and operate their own business, or have an opportunity to manage a business for others. Students will have an opportunity to practice concepts that will aid them in making wise business decisions. Business Management will present the strengths, weaknesses, successes, failures, and problems facing American and international business. A specifically developed segment on financial planning, saving, investing, and analyzing financial documents has been included, with focus on personal as well as business applications.
203 – Marketing – 1 credit – 1 year Grades 10- 12
So, you have an idea for a product and need to know how to market it! Marketing is the process of developing, promoting, and distributing products in order to satisfy customers’ needs and wants. This course will cover all aspects of the “marketing mix” by integrating simulations, computers, and school-to-work experiences to aid learning and understanding. Upon enrollment in the Tech Prep Program, successful completion of the course with a grade of 80 or better, and earning a passing grade on the MCC exam, the student will earn three college credits.

225 - Introduction to Web Design – ½ credit – ½ year (Fall Semester)
In this one semester course, students will develop the basic skills necessary for creating an effective web design. Students will become familiar with the Macromedia Dreamweaver environment and create web pages by typing and formatting text, importing graphics, adding, links, building tables, using frames, and up leading files to a remote server. Students will work on individual as well as team based projects. Student projects will range from basic personal profile and on- line resume pages to more creative and conceptual pieces designed to tell stories or promote a commercial endeavor.
251- Advanced Web Design – ½ credit – ½ year (Spring Semester) In this one
semester course, students will develop advanced skills of web design. In addition to exploring the advanced features of Macromedia Dream weaver, students will become familiar with the graphic design functions of Macromedia FreeHand, the animation features of Macromedia Flash and learn how to create vector graphics, edit bitmap graphics, optimize images, and create and assign rollover effects for the Web using Macromedia Fireworks. Student projects will focus on the design and execution of highly interactive web sites. These projects will be performed in a real world production atmosphere where students brainstorm, outline objectives and goals, write proposals, draw flow charts, sketch storyboards, and present their proposal to mock clients.
