Integrated Math 3

Course Syllabus 2011 - 2012

Introduction:

This is a full year mathematics course, and for many of you, the final course needed to fulfill your Mathematics graduation requirement.  Congratulations on making it to IM3!!

We will be studying numerous mathematical concepts, beginning with a review of important topics studied in Integrated 1 and 2, and then moving on to some interesting new algebra ideas.

You will find it very helpful to have a scientific calculator.  A Texas Instruments scientific calculator is recommended for those who will be purchasing a new calculator.  Please note that there will be very few calculators available to borrow in class – so it will be important for you to bring your own.  Additionally, you will need your calculator to complete homework assignments.

Class Preparation:

Students in this class are expected to come to class prepared each day.  The required

              materials for class include:

  • Completed homework assignment
  • Pen or Pencil
  • Notebook – It is recommended that you get a 3-ring binder for your math notebook since all handouts will be hole punched for you to include in your notebook.
  • Calculator

On some occasions you may need to use your textbook in class.  It is a good idea to have your book available in your locker, and I will notify you at the beginning of class if you need to get it for that day’s lesson.  It is not necessary to carry it with you on a daily basis.

Grading System:

Each quarter grade is calculated as follows:

                            Homework Average                                  30%

                            Quizzes & Projects                                    25%

                            Class Participation                                      5%

                            Test Average                                               40%

Your final course grade is calculated as follows:

Each quarter grade counts three times toward your final grade,

the Midterm Exam counts once toward your final grade,

and the Final Exam counts once toward your final grade

(making a total of 14 grades to be averaged for your final grade).

Assignments:

  • Expect to have a written homework assignment after each class.
  • Quizzes are given once or twice during each unit.  These will be announced in advance, so there should be no surprises.
  • Tests are given at the end of each chapter.  These will be announced ahead of time with ample opportunity for students to study & prepare.
  • When you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed, get the missed notes, and check with me on when the missed assignment(s) is due.  It is not appropriate to walk into class the day you return to school and expect the whole class to wait while you find out what you have missed.  You need to take care of this before or after school.
  • You can also use www.mygradebook.com to find out what assignment(s) you may have missed due to absence.  Additionally, all class notes are posted on my page on the school’s website.  Notes are generally updated once a week.
  • Once we have taken a chapter test, no additional work will be accepted for that chapter.
  •

Extra Help:

It is not unusual for any student to run into trouble from time to time.  As soon as you feel lost or confused, come see me!  I’m happy to help you be as successful as possible.  I am available every day before school and most days after school for help.  However, if you need to see me another time, check with me ahead of time so we can arrange some extra help time that works for both of us.
