What Is The CGS PTO?
The CGS PTO is an organization consisting of parents, grandparents, guardians, teachers, school staff and administrators. We all have different ideas, talents, and schedules but our common goal is the desire to make our children’s school experience the best it can be.
Monthly meetings provide the opportunity for all to share in the process of making policies and activities that affect CGS children.
CGS PTO membership allows parents to show their support for our school, community, and most importantly, our children.
The CGS PTO raises money for activities and programs that are not paid for through public funds. (One example would be help to differ the cost of field trips).
The CGS PTO strengthens the relationship between school and home through interaction between teachers and parents.
How Can You Be Involved?
Do what you can, when you can, how you can. Any and all participation is welcomed.
Attend monthly CGS PTO meetings (free childcare is provided). This ensures that the lines of communication are open, representing the thoughts and ideas of all parents.
Volunteer to work on or chair a CGS PTO event or committee.
Bring your child and family to some of the many PTO sponsored events, and enjoy quality time doing fun family activities. Also, take time to meet your child’s classmates and their families.
PTO Volunteer Search
When we work together… anything is possible!
The CGS PTO is searching for volunteers for the 2007-2008 school year. Volunteering provides another opportunity for you to be an active participant in your child’s life at school. There are many ways to be involved, from serving on the board, baking for a bake sale, or attending PTO sponsored family events. Any and all help is appreciated… just let us know how and when you can help.
The CGS PTO sponsors many events throughout the year. Below is a list of events that need your help. Please read through the list. If you are interested in helping out, simply fill out the enclosed Volunteer Form and return it to school. Your name will be added to the list of volunteers for that event, and you will be contacted by the event chairperson. Please note on the Volunteer Form if you would be interested in chairing an event. Thank you!
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR: Parents and children can purchase books for themselves from popular children and adult selections brought to us by Scholastic Books, Inc. This event will be held during Open House on September 5, 2007, and possibly at other times throughout the year.
SPIRIT WEAR: Help with sales of CGS t-shirts and sweats for students and adults throughout the year.
FUNDRAISING: Contribute your ideas about potential fundraising opportunities and help the current chair distribute fundraising information. The PTO does its best to provide money to support educational programs and initiatives at CGS that are not adequately funded by the Board of Education budget.
BOARD OF EDUCATION REPRESENTATIVES: Individuals to serve as a representative at Board of Education meetings and to report pertinent information to the PTO during the monthly meetings. The Board of Ed will meet the first and third Thursday of every month at 7:00pm. (This is a great committee for the dads to help out.)
STAFF APPRECIATION: A chance to say “thank you” to all the wonderful staff at CGS (bus drivers, too!) Activities occur throughout the year, including the very fun week of surprises during National Teacher Appreciation week in May.
FINE ARTS: Volunteers visit classrooms with artwork to educate children and increase their interest in the arts. This program is overseen by CGS teacher Ingrid Sieckowski.
ROOM PARENTS: Collaborate with your homeroom teacher and PTO to help coordinate classroom events, assist teacher with miscellaneous tasks needed, contact other parents in your child’s classroom as requested by the teacher, etc. (A form will be sent home with your child for you to fill out, and then you will notified)
FAMILY FUN NIGHTS: A variety of family oriented activities such as BINGO, an ice cream social, and movie nights, which are planned throughout the year. Assist in planning and organizing the events.
KIDS FUN FAIR: Event run by both CGS and GHR PTOs to provide families from both schools the opportunity to socialize, play carnival games, win prizes and have lots of fun.
HOLIDAY HUSH: A shopping extravaganza for students! A holiday gift shop that provides reasonably priced gifts for children to purchase for their loved ones at the holidays.
PTO CRAFT FAIR: The PTO Craft Fair is a Coventry tradition. Each PTO in town coordinates to provide a joint PTO craft fair. This is a big event held at Coventry High School the first Saturday in December. CGS provides baked goods for the bake sale table.
COLLATING COMMITTEE: Support the monthly CGS newsletter. Volunteers assist in making copies, stapling the newsletter, and making sure the appropriate number of newsletters are handed out.
