100th Day

Coventry Grammar School students and staff celebrated the 100th Day of School on Thursday, February 7 as part of a nation-wide effort of primary school mathematics teachers to recognize the unique role the number 100 has in counting and grouping.  Whether counting by ones, fives, or tens, all children take great pride in reaching 100 as a very special milestone.  Our more experienced young mathematicians will be quick to tell you that the “hundreds” place value paves the way for more complex numbers and number sets.  In many ways, learning to work with hundreds is as important a goal for second-graders as is reading a chapter book.

Take a look at our students’ 100th Day projects.  How many clever and different ways have the children shown us they can count to 100?  Why, there must be at least a hundred, wouldn’t you say?
