Greetings to you as I peek out from my little “hole” in this snow bank!
It has been a winter with large scale impact on schools across the state. I certainly keep in touch with many Superintendents. I am on top of the snow, school schedule, and facility challenges faced by districts of all sizes. Roof, pipe, masonry, and sidewalk issues have quite frequently been in occurrence this winter.
Beyond these concerns, school leaders are dedicated to student achievement and success. In order to attain the very highest levels of performance…students need to be in school. Given the school closures this winter, Coventry moved the state testing back a week to provide for an additional week of instructional time. Along with taking that action, having students in school during what was to have been February vacation, should assist with this achievement goal. Believe me when I tell you that Coventry Public Schools are as motivated as the parents to have full weeks of uninterrupted instructional delivery!
With a little luck, by the time you read this Dispatch, the long and arduous winter will be behind us, and from under what was once a five foot pile of snow, we will see signs of spring. Personally, I’ll never forget this winter and I dream of daffodils popping out!
Stay well, and may we soon see buds and small green leaves.
