Greetings to you from a cold winter’s day.

 

At these blustery times when children and young adults are kept inside because of inclement weather, parents, as well as friends and relatives, are certainly more impacted by the various forms of their behavior.  It is one thing for young people to be out of the house and doing “whatever,” but it is a quite another thing for them to be doing “whatever” in front of “Aunt Marie” at a family gathering!  Especially over the holidays, which can be trying even for well developed adults, demonstrating socially acceptable behavior demands a whole new level of competency for youngsters.

 

To this end, I invite you to join me for a Community Conversation related to developing well socialized young people.  We will use the Dr. Kevin Leman book, Have a New Kid By Friday, as the basis for our conversation.   Dr. Leman is an internationally known psychologist, author, and media personality, who has written more than 30 books about family issues.  The book is readable and directed at parents.  He contends that the “ankle biter battalion and the hormone group” each have a game plan guaranteed to drive parents up the wall. This book provides guidelines and action steps to change the way young people behave.  Join us for a quality conversation, a light dinner, and a few laughs as we learn how to make progress with the Herculean task of child rearing. 

 

This Community Conversation will be held at my home on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 between 4:00-6:00 p.m.  The first fifteen people to contact my administrative assistant, Kimberlee Michaud (kmichaud@coventryct.org or 742-7317 x101) to register will receive the book for reading and sharing.  I look forward to our dialog in the interest of improving the ways in which this community develops its young people.
