**Updated Information as of 6/5/09**
Health Information: Coventry has had its first confirmed case of the H1N1 Influenza virus (one of 12 confirmed cases in the eastern region and 420 confirmed cases in 70 CT towns). We have been in contact with the Eastern Highlands Health District and are taking the appropriate and recommeded steps. Health agencies, from the CDC, CT State Department, to the Eastern Highlands Health District are recommending noticing the parents of the school involved only, and not closing facilities at this time.
Please note the following points of information:
-
H1N1 Influenza virus is one of hundreds of strains of viruses and recommendations are to treat cases similarly to other influenza viruses.
-
Students with validated cases of flu (including H1N1) are being recorded and tracked at the school involved.
-
Privacy rights are guaranteed to all students regarding any of their medical conditions.
-
Parents suspecting their student might have the flu are requested to validate the nature of the flu with their family physician.
-
CDC recommends that students with any influenza-like illness should stay away from school for a minimum of 7 days, or 24 hours after symptoms resolve, whichever is longer.
